Add a Lodging location

The steps below describe how to add a Lodging location. To add many locations at once, you can import company locations.

Advice: If you're an online travel agent (OTA), you can skip this step for adding locations. Adding locations only makes sense if you are a property manager that manages a small number of properties.

In AvaTax, go to Settings > Company Locations and Marketplaces.
Select Add a Location.
Add the location information:
1. Enter a location code that is easy to remember or one that you already use in your business application. This location code will be specified in transactions in the locationCode and reportingLocationCode fields.
2. Select Location under Type.
3. Select a Other under Category.
Enter the address for the location, click Validate, and then select Use Validated Address.
Enter effective and expiration dates for when you want transactions to start and stop being calculated for this location.
Enter attributes and values for your specific location. The location created as an example in this integration guide uses the following attributes. Your setup will likely be different:
- Establishment type: Motel
- Is reseller: Yes
- Number of units for rent: 50 count
- Sleeps: 100 count
- Hotelownedrestaurantonsite: No
Select Save This Location.
Repeat these steps for each of your locations.

You now have a location set up within your company profile. When creating transactions for this location, use the locationCode field in the address object and the reportingLocationCode field at the document level, and AvaTax will automatically pull in the parameters that you included in Step 6 above. In addition, using location codes allows you to create location-specific reports, file through Managed Returns, and filter by location code on the Transactions page.
