Retrieve the status of a 1099 form

Endpoint:GET /1099/forms/{id}

Use case:

Use this endpoint to check the current status of a specific 1099 form. This includes:

Filing and processing status with the IRS or state
Mailing and delivery status
Validation results for TIN matching and address verification

This is especially useful when:

You want to confirm that a form has been successfully filed
You need to display status updates to internal teams or recipients
You want to confirm that a form is complete programmatically before taking further actions

One endpoint, all form types

This endpoint supports all 1099 form types. Simply provide the uniqueid returned from when the form was created or updated (for example, fromPOST /1099/forms orPUT /1099/forms/{id}).

Note

You must use the system-generated formid, not thereferenceId.

Key status fields explained

federalEfileStatus: Tracks whether the form was submitted to the IRS.
stateEfileStatus: Tracks e-filing status for individual states (which can include multiple entries).
All the statuses above forfederalEfileStatus also applies tostateEfileStatus, with the addition of the list below that are specific for the state eFilling process:
- Rejected - the 1099 has been rejected by the state.
- Corrected Rejected - the 1099 correction has been rejected by the state.
eDeliveryStatus: Tracks whether the form was emailed to the recipient.
- Unscheduled - the 1099 hasn’t been scheduled for e-delivery.
- Scheduled - the 1099 has been scheduled for e-delivery but not yet sent.
- Sent - the 1099 recipient has been emailed but they haven’t yet downloaded their form.
- Accepted - the 1099 recipient has downloaded their 1099.
- Bounced - the email sent to the 1099 recipient bounced.
- Bad Verify - the 1099 recipient typed in the last 4 of their SSN/EIN that was different from what is stored in Avalara (usually indicates that the customer has an incorrect SSN/EIN on file for the recipient).
- Bad Verify Limit - the 1099 recipient typed in an incorrect last 4 of their SSN/EIN multiple times and the form is now locked for e-delivery.
postalMailStatus: Status of paper delivery, ifpostalMail was set totrue.
- Unscheduled - the 1099 hasn’t been scheduled for postal mail to the recipient.
- Scheduled - the 1099 has been scheduled for postal mail to the recipient.
- Sent - the 1099 has been submitted to our mailing vendor.
- Delivered - the 1099 has been delivered to the recipient.
tinMatchStatus: Result of the TIN validation, if requested.
- none: No TIN match scheduled/attempted.
- pending: TIN match request sent but no response yet.
- matched: TIN/Name combination matches IRS records.
- failed: TIN/Name combination does NOT match IRS records.
- Unknown: Invalid request, duplicate request, or other IRS error.
addressVerificationStatus: Result of the address validation, if enabled.
- pending: Verification submitted but no result yet.
- incomplete: Result received but user hasn't decided.
- verified: User accepted the suggested changes.
- unchanged: User rejected the suggested changes.
- failed: Verification failed or address not found.
- Unknown: No address verification record exists.

Each status object includes astatus string and atime field showing when the action was completed.
