# Tax code mapping group

If your application groups product/services into categories, then your integration must apply the tax code at the category level, with an option to override the category tax code at the individual item level. For example, consider a merchant who sells of thousands of different items of clothing. Instead of mapping each one of those SKUs to Avalara tax codes, you can roll all of those under a specific category (for example, "shirts"), and then map that category class to an Avalara tax code.
