# Data and access requirements

Understand the ERP and AvaTax data needed for transaction-level tax transparency and the required permissions.

This section describes the ERP and AvaTax data required to support transaction-level tax transparency and the associated permission requirements.

## ERP data access

The AI agent retrieves ERP data through the connector to generate transaction-level tax explanations.

- **Transaction data**: All transaction types, including line items, addresses, customer information, and subsidiary context.
- **Customer data**: Customer codes, tax status, and linked addresses.
- **Item data**: Item codes, descriptions, and assigned tax codes.
- **Context service**: Current page and record context are used to provide screen-aware explanations.

## AvaTax data access

The AI agent retrieves AvaTax data through the MCP integration layer to analyze and explain tax calculations.

- **Transaction details**: Full jurisdiction breakdown, applied rates, calculated amounts, and sourcing methodology.
- **Customer certificates**: Exemption certificates, expiration dates, and coverage zones.
- **Nexus configuration**: Active nexus declarations used to provide contextual explanations.

## Permission requirements

The following permissions are required to enable tax transparency functionality.

- **ERP access**: Read access to transactions the user is currently viewing.
- **AvaTax access**: API credentials with transaction and certificate read permissions.
- **Role-based access**: Available to all roles with transaction access. Administrators may restrict access if needed.
