# Import mode and export mode

ClassyVue supports import and export classification modes. Learn how each mode works and which tariff schedules are returned based on the destination country and the importMode parameter.

ClassyVue supports 2 classification modes, controlled by the `importMode` parameter in `ccce.classify()`:

- **Import mode**: when `importMode: true`

In import mode, ClassyVue returns the destination country's import tariff code. This is the default setting.

    - For the United States, this is the 10-digit HTSUS code filed in CBP entry summaries.
    - For Germany and the broader EU, this is the 10-digit TARIC code used in EU import declarations.
- **Export mode**: `importMode: false`

In export mode, ClassyVue switches to the destination country's outbound export schedule and returns the corresponding export classification code.

    - For the United States, this is the 10-digit Schedule B code filed in AES/EEI via the CBP ACE Portal.
    - For Germany, this is the 8-digit Combined Nomenclature (CN) code filed in an EX-A export declaration under the Union Customs Code.

Switching between modes requires only a single boolean change in the `ccce.classify()` call. No additional widget setup, SDK, API, or contract change is needed.

Note

Export-schedule support today covers the United States (US) and Germany (DE) only. For any other destination, ClassyVue ignores `importMode: false` and continues to return the standard import schedule.
