# Revenue reporting

Learn how to report revenue accurately and meet deadlines for Avalara MyLodgeTax.

Accurate revenue reporting ensures that Avalara MyLodgeTax can calculate and file the correct lodging taxes for your property. Reporting your revenue on time allows Avalara to prepare and submit your returns to each jurisdiction by the required filing dates.

## Reporting period

Your system determines the correct reporting period for each property before sending revenue to the MyLodgeTax application. Jurisdictions fall into 2 groups.

- Some jurisdictions require revenue to be submitted between the 1st and the 5th of the month.

- Other jurisdictions require revenue to be submitted between the 1st and the 10th of the month.

MyLodgeTax specifies the applicable deadline for each property, and your integration must ensure that the revenue data is submitted before that cutoff.

## Reporting period deadline

The usual deadline for submitting a revenue report is 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time on the 10th of the month. However, if your property is in a jurisdiction that requires returns filed by the 10th, you must submit your revenue report by 5:00 p.m. MT on the 5th of the month.

After the reporting deadline, property owners see the revenue they submitted. However, they can't change it or add any new revenue. The MyLodgeTax welcome letter provides each property owner’s first reporting deadline.

Note

If your jurisdiction requires you to submit returns quarterly, you can skip reporting your revenue for the first 2 months of the quarter. Instead, report the revenue for the entire quarter on the 3rd month’s deadline (the 5th or the 10th).

Revenue may be submitted on a monthly basis, even when the filing frequency is quarterly, semiannual, or annual.

The system automatically aggregates monthly revenue amounts into the appropriate filing period total.

Submitting revenue monthly is recommended because it allows the system to calculate period totals without requiring manual consolidation. While a single summarized total for the full filing period can be submitted, this isn’t required because aggregation occurs automatically.

For example, if your revenue is $1,500 for January, $2,000 for February, and $500 for March:

- Skip reporting January’s $1,500 by the 10th (or 5th) of February.

- Skip reporting February’s $2,000 by the 10th (or 5th) of March.

- Report $4,000 by the 10th (or 5th) of April.

## Adjustments

If you need to adjust your reported revenue after the deadline, you must request the adjustment by 12:00 p.m. MT on the 13th or the 5th, depending on your jurisdiction. Keep the following in mind:

- There are no fees for adjusting your revenue report before the 10th (or 5th) of the month.

- Avalara may be able to change your submitted revenue report after your deadline if it’s the 10th of the month. We must receive your completed Adjustment Request Form no later than 12:00 p.m. MT on the 13th of the month. This adjustment includes additional fees.

- Avalara can’t change a submitted revenue report after the 5th of the month if the 5th is your reporting deadline. We’ll need to file an amended return for you to make the change.

## Report revenue after the deadline

If revenue is reported to MyLodgeTax after 5:00 p.m. MT on the 10th of the month, a $0 return may have already been filed on your behalf.
