# Typical ERP workflow

Understand the typical ECM workflow in an ERP environment.

A typical ECM workflow in an ERP environment includes the following steps:

1. Create a customer record.
2. Request a certificate from the customer.
3. Customer submits certificate information. Upon receipt, ECM will update the customer record automatically with the certificate information.
4. Continue to request certificates from that customer as the original certificates expire.
5. Update the customer record if the customer moves or if contact information changes.
6. Unlink certificates from a customer if the customer relationship ends.
