# Option to enable client-side logging

Learn about enabling detailed AvaTax transaction logging for troubleshooting and support.

Include an option that enables detailed AvaTax transaction logging within the application. The logging service should be specifically for Avalara service calls; we need the complete request/response for each call made to Avalara services. The logging service doesn’t need to run all the time, as we understand the database will grow. You can choose to log only the last week, 30 days, custom, or have a control for the next _N_ hours, and so on. The spirit of the requirement is to assist customers and support in troubleshooting exercises, so it needs to be retrievable by a user (or an administrator).

You handle this task through your environment back end, not directly through an AvaTax API call.
