# Customs duty and import transactions

Learn about customs duty and import tax transactions, including configurations and related concepts.

Customs duty and import tax transactions are an extension of AvaTax VAT transactions. As such, there are additional configurations required for simple transactions, nonstandard item transactions, and tax overrides. In addition, it’s important that you also understand quoting and variance and how those relate to your transactions.
