# Return extended data

Your integration should provide a flag for specifying whether to return extended tax data in responses. This can be specified using the `retext` field in the [Configuration](https://developer.avalara.com/api-reference/communications/v2/models/Configuration/) model. This value defaults to false.

-   If you're building an integration just for invoicing, set this value to false.
-   If you're planning to store information or do reporting from a billing platform, set this value to true.
