# Get the data required for the API

Get the JSON configuration from Avalara 1099 & W-9 that you need to configure and use the API.

Before you begin

Make sure you have your Avalara 1099 & W-9 sandbox or production URL.

About this task

Use these steps to get the JSON from Avalara 1099 & W-9 that you need to configure the API.

Steps

1.  Sign in to Avalara 1099 & W-9.
    1.  For sandbox, go to [https://sbx.track1099.com/login](https://sbx.track1099.com/login).
    2.  For production, go to [https://www.track1099.com/login](https://www.track1099.com/login).
2.  Select the W-9 section using the W-9 tile or the toggle in the top-right corner.
3.  Select the company from which you want to request and collect W-9 forms.
4.  If you don’t have a company, follow these steps to create one.
    1.  Create a new company.
    2.  Complete all required fields. You can leave optional fields blank or use test values.
    3.  Select Save.
5.  Select the company name.
6.  Select Request Forms, then select W-9 from the menu.
7.  Copy the JSON from the Collect W-9s/W-8s on Your Website card.

Result

You now have the JSON data required to configure and use the API.
