# Supported form types

Learn about the different types of forms used for tax reporting and compliance.

The following are the supported form types for tax reporting and compliance:

**1099 Forms**

-   1099-NEC

    This form is used to report nonemployee compensation of $600 or more in a calendar year. Commonly issued to independent contractors, freelancers, and consultants.

-   1099-MISC

    This form is used to report miscellaneous income such as rent, royalties, legal services, and other income types not covered by other 1099s.

-   1099-K

    Filed by payment processors and platforms to report transactions made through 3rd networks or card payments (for example, PayPal, Stripe).

-   1099-DIV

    Used by banks and investment firms to report dividends and other distributions to shareholders.

-   1099-R

    Issued for distributions from retirement plans, annuities, IRAs, or pensions.

**W-9 Forms**

-   W-9

    Used to collect a U.S. person or business's TIN and tax classification. Required for any individual or entity that will receive a 1099. Not submitted to the IRS but retained by the payer.

-   W-4

    Completed by employees to direct federal income tax withholding from their pay. Employers use it to calculate how much to withhold.

-   W-8BEN

    Used by non-U.S. individuals to certify foreign status and claim a reduction in withholding under a tax treaty.

-   W-8BEN-E

    Similar to W-8BEN but used by foreign entities rather than individuals.

-   W-8IMY

    Used by intermediaries and flow-through entities (for example, partnerships) to certify that they’re receiving payments on behalf of others.
