# Understanding e-Invoice for Services scenarios

### The NFS-e Project

The Electronic Invoice for Services Project (NFS-e) was developed in an integrated manner, by the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil (RFB) and the Brazilian Association of Finance Departments of Capitals (Abrasf), in compliance with the ENAT Cooperation Protocol nº 02, of 7 December 2007, which assigned the coordination and responsibility for the development and implementation of the NFS-e Project.

The Electronic Invoice for Services (NFS-e) is a digital document, generated and stored electronically in the National Environment by the RFB, municipality, or other contracted entity, to document the operations of these services.

The generation of the Electronic Invoice for Service is done automatically through web services, available to taxpayers. To issue the NFS-e, the data is checked and validated before proceeding with the authorization. The responsibility for fulfilling the right taxation to issue the NFS-e and for providing data to the Brazilian authorities is the taxpayers.
