# Option to disable AvaTax

Your integration must provide an option to turn on or off the Avalara Calculation engine service independent of any other Avalara product or service. For example, a merchant may want to disable AvaTax for sales tax determination but keep other Avalara services enabled (for example, Address Validation).

This requirement is handled through your back-end and not directly via an AvaTax API call.
