# Option to enable client-side logging

Learn about enabling detailed AvaTax transaction logging for troubleshooting and support.

Enable detailed AvaTax transaction logging within the application to assist with troubleshooting. The logging service captures the complete request and response for each Avalara service call. This service is specifically for Avalara service calls and doesn’t need to run continuously to avoid excessive database growth.

Options for logging include:

-   Log only the last week
-   Log the last 30 days
-   Set a custom logging period
-   Control logging for the next _N_ hours

The logging data should be retrievable by a user or administrator to support troubleshooting efforts.

This functionality is managed through your environment back-end and not directly via an AvaTax API call.
