# Set up cost centers

Learn how to set up cost centers in your Avalara Sandbox environment.

About this task

Setting up cost centers helps you organize and manage your consumer use tax settings effectively.

Steps

1.  Sign in to your Avalara [Sandbox](https://sandbox.admin.avalara.com/cup/a/1100161769/c/8053080/landing) environment.
2.  Go to Settings > Consumer use settings \> Set up cost centers > Manage.
    1.  Specify a name for the cost center.
    2.  In the If the item code field is empty, use field, select the item you created.
    3.  In the If the entity use code field is empty, use field, select an entity use code type (for example, `G - Resale`).
3.  Select Save.

Result

Upon completion, the cost center will be available on the Manage your cost centers page. You can now create a vendor and associate this cost center with that vendor.
