# Step 8: Finalization and activate monitoring

Complete onboarding, record configurations for audits, and enable monitoring.

This step finalizes the onboarding process, records the completed configuration for audit purposes, and transitions the system to ongoing monitoring.

## When this step occurs

This step occurs after the onboarding summary is reviewed and all configuration actions have been completed.

## What the AI agent does

During this step, the AI agent completes onboarding and prepares the system for ongoing operation.

-   **Create an audit record**: The AI agent creates an audit record that captures the full onboarding run, including:

    -   Timestamp

    -   User identifier

    -   All configuration decisions

    -   Before and after configuration snapshots

    The audit record is immutable and available for download to support compliance and recordkeeping needs.

-   **Activate monitoring**: The AI agent enables postonboarding monitoring and schedules initial monitoring scans, including:

    -   Economic nexus monitoring

    -   Detection of new physical locations

    -   Detection of new items

    -   Detection of new customers

    -   Certificate expiration monitoring

-   **Transform the Avalara Setup Center**: The AI agent transitions the Avalara Setup Center from onboarding mode to an ongoing monitoring dashboard.

    The dashboard displays configuration health status, alerts, and quick access to rerun configuration workflows as needed.

-   **Present completion message**: The AI agent confirms onboarding completion and informs the user that monitoring is active.

## Outcome of this step

Onboarding is complete. The Avalara Setup Center is active as a monitoring dashboard, and the AI agent begins monitoring configuration changes and compliance signals.
