# Option to disable address validation

**Element type**: Required

**Endpoints/Models used**: N/A

Your integration must provide a method for enabling and disabling the address validation service on a configuration screen.

There are a few reasons why you would want to disable address validation:

- AvaTax can only validate U.S. and Canadian addresses. Merchants need the option to disable address validation when working with addresses outside the U.S. and Canada.

- Merchants may disagree with the tax calculation resulting from an address validation. Disabling this allows your merchants to continue invoicing without using our tax calculation.

- The disabled address validation service helps ensure that merchants don’t drive up usage and costs.
